A Visit To Uncle Andy

Ah, isn’t it good to see the British Unionist minority in Ireland and their DUP representatives return to the good old bad days of sabre rattling. From the News Letter:

“EX-LOYALIST paramilitaries told a group of Irish politicians that ongoing dissident bloodshed is tempting some to respond.

Former members of the UVF and UDA told TDs from the Oireachtas’ Joint Committee for the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, that they are working very hard to prevent loyalists from returning to violence.

DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson said there is recognition that many loyalist communities haven’t seen the same development in their infrastructure at community level as many nationalist areas, but added that steps have been taken to rectify that.”

Yes indeed. We must do all that we can to prevent the British terrorist factions in Ireland “returning to violence” as they murmur fervently to themselves: “Lead me not into temptation, father!”. One would never imagine, of course, that whole bloody conflict began with Unionist violence in the first place. Anyone remember 1966? Or what about 1912?

Well, at least the TDs will enjoy the delights of traipsing around the Andy Tyrie Interpretative Centre in East Belfast. Albeit walking in rather small circles. Much like Unionism itself
