At long last…
According to Enda Kenny in the Dáil today…
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the Dáil that the Marriage Equality referendum will take place in spring 2015.
He was responding to a question about the same-sex marriage referendum from Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams during Order of Business this evening.
Certainly not before time, and the position of those of us here in support of the measure is hardly a surprise. It will be educative to see how the campaign(s) go over the next eight to ten months. Any thoughts at what is – obviously – a very early point on how it all pans out?

good posting, sionnach: hopefully there will be an honest debate (unlikely, unfortunately) – i’m in favour but let’s not delude ourselves: this is ideologically driven by the labour party: we’re six years in a recession with quarter of million long-term unemployed; the Children and Family Relationship Bill is designed to accelerate adoption changes in advance of constitutional change; and even if a referendum is passed who says that it will be enacted? – current justice minister when she was responsible for Children’s Referendum in 2012 (which has *yet to be enacted*) illegally spent millions in breach of the mckenna judgement — it all stinks of conformity and deliberate deflection of economic priorities

Lorcánach, all true though hopefully this will be done with minimal rancour. I suspect not. In any case I will be fighting the good fight from this minor platform 🙂

Don’t think that something like that should be decided in a referendum.
It’s not right that some narrow minded people can vote to restrict other people’s human rights.

indeed? you’ll be disappointed to know that if held before a general election the safe bet is referendum will be narrowly defeated

Jānis, preferably this should be handled by a Dáil vote but a referendum has been committed to. Hopefully it will be passed.

Well, then I hope that narrow minded bigots will really be a minority.
