Armed Drones Of The Islamic State In Syria And Iraq

The open-source analysis site, Bellingcat, has published a detailed article on the use of improvised armed drones by the Islamic State (IS) in the conflict zones of Syria and Iraq that is well worth a read. It has been updated several times and features a wealth of information on the parastate’s crude but effective UAV industry. One thing to note though from the piece. The description of Germany’s World War II “flying bomb”, the V-1, as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is incorrect. The weapon was a surface-to-surface cruise missile, however rudimentary by modern standards, with no external control once launched.

  1. Bellingcat? Seriously? I would take their lies with a big pinch of salt.
